Hello WSS families,
Las Cruces Public Schools has a policy that if there are lightning strikes within 10 miles of the campus, we must go into a shelter in place. If the dismissal bell rings, and we are in shelter in place, students who walk will remain on campus until it is lifted. We will have MST and SAC buses on site to transfer students to those facilities.
Parents have the right to come to White Sands School and pick up their child through the front office. We are approaching the rainy part of the year and we expect that we will be in and out of shelter in place over the next month. Please be patient and understanding during this time. If you choose to pick your child up you may experience long lines. We are continually monitoring the weather app (weather sentry) through the storms and will release students as soon as we are able. The district policy states students can be released to walk home 30 minutes after the last lightning strike that is 10 miles away. We will also send out an InTouch when the shelter in place has been lifted.
